Our History

On February 28, 2014, Mdm. Xu Lin, Director General of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director of Hanban, and Mr. Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, signed an MOU in Beijing, China under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping and then Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, to establish Confucius Institute at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (CI-UAF), the third Confucius Institute in Pakistan. On April 14, 2014, Prof. Dr. Gao Fa Shui, headed a delegation from Xinjiang Agricultural University (XJAU) to visit the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The two hosting universities for CI-UAF held a formal meeting for launching the operation of CI-UAF at UAF. On July 22, 2014, Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad, visited XJAU and signed the Implementation Agreement with Prof. Dr. Luo Qiu-Jiang, President of Xinjiang Agricultural University in Urumqi, Xinjiang China. On February 12, 2015, Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi and Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq jointly unveiled the plaque of CI-UAF in Islamabad, Pakistan, officially launching the operation of CI-UAF.

Vision & Future Plans

  • Completion of Model Confucius Institute Building in 2021.
  • Strive to win the honorary title of Advanced Confucius Institute in 2020.
  • Build CI-UAF as an Important Base for Teaching Chinese language and Performing Chinese cultural activities in the Central part of Pakistan.
  • Develop CI-UAF as a Chinese language + technical skills training center.
  • Building an endowment fund for the sustainable development of CI-UAF.
  • Launch an undergraduate program majoring in the Chinese language at UAF for future talent training in this regard.
  • Become a platform and bridge between UAF and XJAU or other Chinese prestigious universities in terms of educational and research exchanges and cooperation.

Rules and Regulations

Constitution and By-laws of Confucius Institute

1. Confucius Institutes are committed to meeting the needs of people around the world to learn Chinese, to enhance the understanding of Chinese culture, to strengthen educational, cultural exchanges and to develop friendly relations between China and foreign countries, to promote the development of the world’s cultural diversity and to build a harmonious world.

2. Confucius Institutes are non-profit educational institutions, which carry out exchanges and cooperation in Chinese language teaching and culture overseas on the basis of mutual respect, friendly consultation, equality, and mutual benefit.

3. Confucius Institutes shall abide by the laws and regulations of the place of registration, respect the local cultural traditions and social customs. And shall not conflict with the relevant laws of China, shall not participate in activities that are inconsistent with the purposes for which Confucius Institutes were established.

4. Confucius Institutes provide the following services:

To carry out Chinese teaching;

  • Training Chinese teachers and providing Chinese language teaching resources;
  • To conduct Chinese language examinations and Chinese language teacher qualification;
  • To provide information on education and culture in China;
  • To carry out cultural exchanges.

5. Confucius Institutes shall establish a council. The members of the Board of Directors shall be composed of both parties. The council shall be responsible for considering the development plan, the annual work plan, the summary annual reports, the project implementation plan and its final accounts. Also it shall appoint and dismiss the Dean and Vice-Dean.
